Course Description: This beginning course is designed to help the student develop a fundamental understanding of psychology. The content will include an overview of the different schools of psychology, components of behavior and mental processes, and human growth and development. Various theories such as Psychoanalytic theory, Behavioristic theory, Humanistic and Cognitive Development theory are explored.
Course Objectives: At the completion of the course, students will be able to apply selected theories to the behavior of clients, families and self and specifically:
- Discuss selected theoretical perspectives on human behavior.
- Use selected theoretical perspectives to explain human behavior of self and other
- Apply at least one theoretical perspective to the behavior of an individual experiencing major life change events.
- Identify beliefs about human behavior that are based on myth/ imagination and not on psychological theory.
Instructor: Eloisa Talusan, MD, has a wealth of experience as an instructor. In addition, she is a fellow in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, having served as an attending physician for 5 years in Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit , and acted as attending physician in the Pediatrics Emergency Room.
