IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal Certification Course

Program Description: This course is designed for Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN) and Vocational Nursing (VN) graduates.

The focus of the course is to prepare LVNs and VN graduates for initiating and maintaining common intravenous therapies and blood withdrawal. The course will cover minimal competencies for California IV Certification and Blood Withdrawal, Scope of Practice, and Regulations for the Licensed Vocational Nurse.

The course includes lectures, power point presentations, handouts, written quizzes, demonstrations and return demonstrations. The participants will practice on mannequins and will be required to successfully insert three IVs and perform three blood withdrawals on humans to complete the course.

A Certificate of Attendance and Completion of the course will be provided to the LVN and the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT) will be notified in writing by NCP. Thirty-six (36) hours of clinical and theoretical instruction will be awarded to each participant who completed this course.

Instructor: Ellen K. Cervellon, RNC, MSN, has a wealth of experience as an Administrative Nursing Supervisor , Director of Emergency Services , Nursing Administrative Manager, Didactic Instructor, and Nursing Clinical Instructor/Project Lead. She also brings to NCP her knowledge of Program Development in the area of Obstetrical and Pediatric Nursing , Maternal-Child Health, Pediatrics, Medical-Surgical patients, and Respiratory/Neurosurgical patients, among others.
