Course Description: This course will highlight certain trends and clinical updates related to long term care. Topics include infection control, fall prevention, culture change, brain fitness, staff development and health care reform.
8:30 AM – 9:30 AM Infection Control Updates
Course Objectives: At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:
- Identify and discuss trends related to Tuberculosis.
- Describe the CDC recommendation for the 2010 Seasonal Flu vaccine.
- To get familiarized with the CDC website.
9:30 AM – 10:30 AM Falls Update
Course Objectives: At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:
- Describe interventions that work in preventing and reducing incidences of falls.
- Discuss conclusion of studies related to falls prevention.
10:30AM – 10:45AM Break
10:45 – 11:45 AM Effective In-Service Education program in LTC
Course Objectives: At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:
- Identify positive outcomes on in-service education.
- Discuss learning needs of staff.
- Describe effective teaching strategies.
11:45AM – 12:30 Lunch
12:30PM – 1:30PM – Culture Change – A Trend in Long Term Care
Course Objectives: At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:
- Define and describe culture change.
- Identify the barriers to culture change.
- Discuss strategies to promote culture change.
1:30PM – 2:30 PM Highlights of Health Care Reform
Course Objectives: At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:
- Review the highlights of health care reform that affect long term care.
- Discuss ramifications if any to clinical practice.
2:30 – 2:45 PM Break
2:45PM – 3:45 PM – Brain Fitness – Use of technology
Course Objectives: At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:
- Describe brain fitness.
- Identify a brain fitness program.
3:45PM – 4:15PM Evaluation
