Quality Resident Care through Effective Fall Prevention and Coordinated Interdisciplinary Team Meetings

Course Description: This course will provide Long Term Care Administrators, Nursing Leaders, and Charge Nurses the opportunity to learn and discuss approaches to Quality Resident Care through Effective Falls Prevention and Coordinated Interdisciplinary Team Meetings.

08:30 am-09:00 am Continental Breakfast/Introduction

09:00 am-10:45 am Resident Falls Prevention - Assessment and Interventions

Course Objectives: At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:

  • Analyze data related to falls and its cost ramifications.
  • Explain the contributing factors associated with falls: medications, medical conditions, environment, personal clothing, gait and balance impairments.
  • Identify the modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors for resident falls
  • Discuss the elements of a post-fall assessment and how it contributes to Resident Quality Care.
  • Identify safety devices and medical equipments on the market that can help prevent resident's falls.

10:45 am-11:00 am Break

11:00 am-01:00 pm Interdisciplinary Team Meetings

Course Objectives: At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:

  • Describe the purpose and goal of Interdisciplinary Team Meetings
  • Identify the Typical Members and Role of the Interdisciplinary Team
  • Establish team rules for the Meetings
  • Identify the characteristics of facility Interdisciplinary Team Meetings
  • Describe the facility care planning process during Interdisciplinary Team Meetings

Instructor: Lynn M. Blair, RN, NHA, Ph.D, has a wealth of experience as a Registered Nurse, Educator, and Health Care Administrator. She also brings to NCP her knowledge as a Business Consultant in the area of units providing: Alzheimer, Rehabilitation, Transitional Care , Hospice, HIV/AIDS, Operations Integration, Total Quality Management Programs, Acquisition Due Diligence, Clinical and Business Policy, and Procedure Implementation, among others.
