Program Description: The course is a comprehensive update for nurses caring for clients receiving IV therapy. It offers RNs and IV
Certified-LVNs an opportunity to build upon and update theoretical knowledge of IV therapy. (Note: This is
NOT an IV Certification Course)
Course Objectives: At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:
- Identify pertinent anatomy and physiology as a foundation for discussion on IV solutions
- Conduct patient assessment and develop appropriate nursing care plan of clients with an IV
- Describe equipment and various IV delivery devices
- Demonstrate how to start and to maintain IV therapy
- State the complications of IV Therapy
a. Demonstrate administration of IV medications, PPN, TPN therapies, blood and blood components.
- Recognize and manage shock therapy in relation to IV therapy
- Describe central line management.
